Dr Faradin Mirkhalaf- CEO of Shimyatech
LSP based ShimyaTech Ltd has been awarded funding from the highly sought-after Future Innovation Fund to develop antiviral applications targeting COVID-19

The Future Innovation Fund was established by Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram to support LCR SMEs to innovate and adapt in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including those enhancing health and wellbeing through open health innovation.

Having seized the opportunity during lockdown to rethink existing antibacterial technologies, ShimyaTech diversified from producing antibacterial materials to new antiviral materials, in response to the changing market demand from the coronavirus pandemic.

ShimyaTech are soon to release a range of antibacterial and antiviral products into the market which utilise cutting-edge nanotechnology.

We expect to finalise development and processing of a range of surface hygiene products such as wet tissues, anti-microbial sprays for surface coatings and face mask filters to provide protection of the spreading of viruses, and in particular COVID-19.

Our surface coating technologies, comprised of nanocomposites exhibit antiviral properties with fast and reliable applications almost on all surfaces, as well as uses in mask filter inserts to be applied at the point of use. The key objective will be introducing 3D nanocomposites containing nanoalloys in conjunction with organic functionalities to provide double action to immobilise and deactivate virus’ and bacteria with a single coating.
Stop COVID-19

Shimyatech Ltd. has been awarded funding from the Future Innovation Fund to develop Antiviral applications targeting COVID-19.

The pandemic and lockdown period, while challenging, provided an opportunity for Shimyatech (ST) to rethink the antibacterial technologies that had been developed and filed as patents early this year, for Antiviral applications targeting COVID-19 problem. For this, some intensive research was undertaken, which with good support received from our academic and business partners led to novel products and prototypes of a range of nanocomposites for preventing surface contamination thus minimising virus transfer between people. Built on our current patents, new technologies and products are developed to apply against viral contamination.

The Future Innovation Fund has been established to support LCR SMEs to innovate, adapt and diversify in response to the COVID-19 pandemic

Our technologies, comprised of nanocomposites and surface coating methods, namely IN-VITRO and Sprays, will be about antiviral coatings with fast and reliable applications on various surfaces of public places and filters (for masks) with low/no risks to the user and environment to be applied at the point of use.

Book to be published soon

“Controlled Deposition of Metal Nanoparticles; Preparation and Applications”

Summary
Controlled nanofabrication deals with controlling the shape and size of nanomaterials to determine the electrical, optical, and magnetic properties. When the size and the shape of materials are reduced to the nanoscale dimension, their physical and chemical properties can change dramatically. This book aims at the demonstration of controlled size and shape of nanostructured materials and their applications. The applications cover photocatalysts, biomedicals, nanomaterials, fuel cells and supercapacitors, lithium-ion batteries, light-emitting diodes, and field emission display. This book may be the first to clearly point out the relationship between the size and the structure of the materials, which strongly affects their properties. Understanding these control parameters has important technological implications for energy conversion and storage, biotechnology, lighting and display, and so forth.

……The author has many years of research experience on developing some of these techniques and their applications in various sectors. Some of the published and unpublished results courtesy of the author’s research outputs are reviewed here for the first time. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this is the first book of this type and it is hoped that it can help research students, researchers and those are interested in the applications of nanomaterials and nanocoatings in different industrial and technology sectors…….
